Social Housing To Be Delivered In Bury

Jennings Design Associates has recently secured Planning Permission for Socially Rented dwellings on behalf of St Vincent’s Housing Association which will be built by the Casey Group in the Summer of 2010.

The project will allow SVHA to deliver an unusual 3 bedroom 6 person home which designs in spacious living and family accommodation to meet the specific needs of the local people in the  area. The contemporary yet contextual design allowed the street frontage of the surrounding two storey terraces to be continued whilst creating a central court providing private and semi private areas in a homezone type of arrangement which focuses on secure yet well managed external spaces.

Funded by the Homes and Communities Agency, the scheme has looked to ensure best design practice in line with SVHA guidelines by complying with:  Lifetime Homes,  Building For Life,  Secured by Design,  and  Code for Sustainable Homes

Of particular interest is the ability of the scheme to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 without the need for solar collectors or photo voltaics.  This has been achieved through the use of timber frame construction which allows lower than normal U Values to be achieved which in combination with enhanced details has ensured that the dwellings maintenance will be significantly reduced – a real benefit to both tenant and land lord.
